Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness

Entry Level Award

In the UK, a young person is seriously injured at work every forty minutes and one actually dies every month. Across Europe, young people have 50 per cent more accidents than older workers.

In order to raise workplace hazard awareness among young people, BSC Awards has developed the Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness (Entry 3). This vocational qualification is part of a three-way initiative with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) to ensure that every young person is kept healthy and safe on work experience and in their first job.

The qualification provides a formal assessment outcome to the delivery of health and safety in the National Curriculum.

Free Teaching Resources and Free Assessments

As part of its charitable mission, the British Safety Council will fund the assessment of all pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11 during the academic year 2007/2008 to help them gain a nationally-recognised qualification.* Centres with 16-19 learners may also apply for funding.

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), has developed the Workplace Hazard Awareness Course to support the delivery of this qualification. The course materials are free to teachers and can be downloaded from www.wiseup2work.co.uk/whac

Schools and colleges interested in adopting this qualification should contact BSC Awards on 020 8600 1033.

* Free assessments subject to availability within designated charitable funds.
